Don't Be the Fool
Happy April Fools' Day! Today's the day everybody's pulling pranks, telling jokes, and trying to trick each other. It's all in good fun, right? But here's the thing, the Bible actually has something to say about being a fool, and it's no joke.
Proverbs 18:2 says, "A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion."
Ouch. That one stings a little if we're being honest. We've all been there. We've all been in that conversation where we're not really listening, we're just waiting for our turn to talk. We want to be heard more than we want to understand. And that, according to God's Word, is foolish.
Think about how different our relationships would be if we actually pursued understanding. Not just hearing the words someone is saying, but really trying to understand their heart. That's what love does. Love listens. Love seeks to understand before it seeks to be understood.
And here's what I've learned, when I slow down and actually listen, really listen, God shows up in those moments. He gives me wisdom I didn't have. He gives me compassion I couldn't manufacture on my own. But when I'm too busy running my mouth and pushing my opinion? I miss it. Every time.
So today, on a day when the world celebrates foolishness, let's be different. Let's be the kind of people who pursue understanding. Let's listen more. Let's be quick to hear and slow to speak. That's not weakness, that's wisdom.
Be Nice. Grace Wins.
