Guard Your Words: The Power of Thoughtful Speech
You ever opened your mouth and said something you wish you didn’t? Maybe it was out of anger or maybe it was meant to be harmless but without thinking it came out wrong and hurt others? I swear, I do it sometimes without thinking and can’t believe myself afterwards…a lot is tied to my odd sense of humor and directness. My dad a bit that way too. But here’s the thing though, almost always when ever it happens I feel remorseful almost immediately. I suspect you do too. That’s a good thing. I like to think that’s the Holy Spirit tapping me on the shoulder and saying, “really? Now go clean it up...”. “Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!”Psalms 141:3 We have to remember our words affect our worlds. It’s critical for us to know how we can use our words to bless our lives and the lives of people around us.So let’s think about how and what we say to others. Are our words being used to lift others up or tear them down? Are we being encouraging to those that need it? I pray each and every day that the Lord helps me with loose words. He knows I need it...Be Nice, Grace Wins
