Quick to Hear, Slow to Speak: Taming the Tongue
“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;”James 1:19 I’ve been thinking about this verse for a few days now and I think it’s time to discuss it. You see, I fail miserably with all of the above. I know HOW I should behave, I just struggle to execute. I feel like sometimes my tongue is like my golf swing. I know how it’s supposed to work and generally it works fine, but it’s just that sometimes it doesn’t cooperate...at all! This sound familiar? I’ve read or heard this quote, “I have said many things that I have regretted. But I have never regretted something that I chose not to say.”As a followers of Christ, we are stewards of what He has entrusted to us. We have been entrusted with a life that is to honor Him. So, as wise stewards, we should chose our words wisely. By doing so, we will have a return on this investment for God, as these words not only provide the listener with wisdom from above, these words also come back to bless us. Oh yeah, God will forgive us when we have spoken wrong words if we seek His forgiveness. Even so, we will often face the consequences of those wrong words. Therefore, this gives us even more reason to not speak until we are ready.I truly need to work on this, like all the time...Peace,
