Who Are You Beyond What You Do?
A friend of mine when asked, “what do you do?” would always respond, “about what?” It was always good for a laugh. I guess it was his way at making light of a rather silly question if you think about it. I mean what we “do” isn’t really who we are, or is it?When meeting someone for the first time, we want to know who they are. And by who they are, we mean what they do. We quickly define ourselves and others by the work we do. When we root our identity in our work, we experience another spiritual danger of doing good. We can be so wrapped up in work that we kind of start worshiping our calling more than we worship Christ. See where I’m going? You see, our identity is secure when it is rooted in Jesus. When we truly believe this, the grip performance has on our hearts begins to lessen. What keeps you from letting God’s love define you? Busyness? Noise? Unrest? In a fast-paced world, it is work to slow down long enough to listen, to read Scripture, to pray, and to regularly remember who we are.Take a minute this weekend and see if you can answer that. I’ve loved the conversation this week!Have a great weekend!Be Nice. Grace Wins.
