Not Earned
So this week we talked about being a good witness for Christ, bearing good fruit, and trying to be more like Jesus. All of which we should be doing. But I think it's worth discussing how these good works actually fit into the picture.
While we may be confident in our work, confidence in our salvation doesn't come from our good works. It comes from God's grace.
Salvation is a free gift. We cannot earn it. It's not based on how good we are, but rather how good God is. That alone gives me a sigh of relief. Ha.
Don't allow people in your life to add works onto your salvation. As Christians, we work for the Lord out of gratitude and love for God, not to earn His love or our salvation. Our good works are the result of our faith in Christ, not a requirement for it.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."
Ephesians 2:8-9

The Sixty-Fifth Time
Sixty-five rounds of Keytruda. Plenty of days I asked God to take it away. So did Paul. God said no, then said something better: my grace is sufficient, my power is perfect in weakness.

He Loved First
Watching the sun come up, I can't help but marvel at what God has made. Loving Someone you can't see takes faith. But faith and action don't earn His love, He loved us first.

Paid in Full
A Cody Johnson lyric stopped me cold: Jesus has already paid every debt I owe. Most of us walk around with a tally sheet. But the books were balanced two thousand years ago. Tetelestai. Paid in full.
