Enjoy the Journey God Laid Out
I want to stick with Rory for one more day because something he said in his post round interview has not left me alone. He was talking about when he won his first Masters and completed the career Grand Slam, and he admitted something pretty honest. He said after he won that first green jacket, he kind of lost his motivation. He felt like he'd arrived. Like the destination he'd been chasing his whole career was finally checked off the list, and now what? He drifted. He lost some direction. He wasn't sure why he was still playing.
But he said something later clicked for him. He realized that winning the Masters, even the Grand Slam, wasn't the destination at all. It was just a part of the journey he was on. And winning that second green jacket this weekend, that wasn't the finish line either. It was just another step on the road God had laid out for him.
Y'all, I heard that with my bad ear. Because I think a whole lot of us are living the same way Rory was. We've got this one thing in our head, when I get the promotion, when I pay off the house, when the kids graduate, when I retire, when I hit the number, and we tell ourselves that's when life really starts. That's the destination. That's when we'll finally breathe. And then we get there and we find out it wasn't the destination at all, it was just a mile marker. And if we're not careful, we spend our whole lives chasing the next one and missing the road God's actually got us on.
Psalm 118:24 says, "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." Read that slow. This day. Not next year. Not when things calm down. Not when you get where you think you're going. This day. The one you're standing in right now, with all its mess and all its ordinary. God made it. On purpose. And He's asking you to rejoice in it, not just survive it.
Here's what I've come to believe. God is a whole lot more interested in who you're becoming on the journey than where you think you're trying to land. The job, the house, the goal, the dream, none of that is the point. The point is you walking with Him, day by day, step by step, letting Him shape you along the way. The destination is just a place He uses to keep you moving. The journey is where the relationship happens.
So today, wherever you are, whatever you're chasing, take a breath and look around. Don't miss this day waiting for some other one. This is the one God made for you. Rejoice in it. Be glad in it. Walk it with Him. Because the journey He laid out for you is the point, not the prize at the end.
Be Nice. Grace Wins.
