Overcoming Evil with Good - The Practice of Forgiveness
In keeping with forgiveness, nobody ever suggested forgiving would be easy. I certainly didn’t and I’m not saying it is, because it’s not. But God challenges us by giving us the ability to forgive. But at the same time, it is one of the hardest things He asks us to do. But you can learn to forgive. God has given us the ability and tools to do so and showed us how we could overcome obstacles. He gave us the best example, His son. God forgave us because He loves us, and He is merciful.Look, I’m just a regular guy who makes mistakes all the time. But what I can say that I try and do is ask God to give me the strength to overcome my weakness and be the bigger person. I don’t always accept that strength right away. Sometimes I let the harm done to me by others hurt for a while. But here’s the grace in Gods love, that hurt slowly turns to a deep and passionate desire to forgive. Not forget mind you, but to release that person from the hurt. When we forgive and let go of the hurt that is in us, we can then truly be free and feel the joy and serenity that is His grace. “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”Romans 12:21 Throughout my day yesterday I thought about forgiveness and how I was trying to explain it. I was worried I was making it to simple, that maybe it was a harder thing to do than I was making it. But it’s not, it’s not hard to explain after all. You see, it’s just something we should do and with practice you get better at it. Seems silly to say, but it’s true. The more I forgive, the more I’m “preloaded”, if you will, to forgive. After a while, it just feels good. Be Nice. Grace Wins.
