Set a Guard

2 min readHumility & CharacterProverbs 13:3

What we say and the words we use matter. This is a big one for me, as most people who know me know I always say exactly what I'm thinking. I definitely don't sugarcoat anything. But be that as it may, some appreciate my way, since they know exactly what I'm thinking and what I'm about. It can be both a curse and a blessing. Maybe you're the same way. But there's a catch.

You see, our words affect our world.

"He who guards his mouth preserves his life, but he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction."

Proverbs 13:3

"Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles."

Proverbs 21:23

Based on that, I'm in trouble.

We all have regrets about our choice of words in certain situations and carry the guilt of what we've spoken in the past. We all understand the significance of our words and the powerful impact they have on our world, mainly our relationships with other people, since our main form of communication is words, our business dealings, and our decision making.

It's important for us to know how we can use our words to bless our lives and the lives of people around us. We need to watch our mouths in order to preserve our life and keep ourselves from a lot of trouble. We need to make a conscious decision to monitor every word that comes from our tongue, and not speak in a meaningless, foolish manner that can have a disastrous outcome on our lives and the lives of those around us.

"Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!"

Psalm 141:3

I should have that written across my forehead sometimes.

Be Nice. Grace Wins.
