Settle It and Let It Go

You ever think about how powerful Jesus is and His command for us to forgive, as God has, those who have hurt us? I mean think about this. With that one selfless action, He becomes the great restorer. That's a big deal, y'all.

"If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother." Matthew 18:15

We really need to settle our differences with each other.

Seems like every day I hear someone say about someone else, "Yeah, the heck with them, they did this or that to me and I'm done with them." Sound familiar? I know I've been there.

Jesus says very clearly in Matthew 18:15, if you have unfinished business with a brother or sister, then you need to go to them and reconcile. Deal with the issue at hand. Then you will start to feel the reward that comes from obedience, the peace and joy that you receive from God from hearing and obeying His will for your life.

I hear people saying, "But it was not my fault!"

But the Lord Jesus clearly says, "If your brother has trespassed against you." He didn't say, "If it was your fault." He said if they wronged you, you go to them. That's on us, not them.

Jesus knows what is good for you and me. He knows that unforgiveness can turn into hatred, and that is a burden that becomes so heavy it will eventually crush you. You weren't built to carry that weight.

So let's go to that person who has trespassed against us, and it's often very close to home. Tell them what has offended you. Make up. Restore that relationship so that Jesus can remove your burden. Trust me, the freedom on the other side of forgiveness is worth the awkward conversation.
