We Are Better Together in Christian Community
So, there is an old country song by Don Williams called, I believe in Love. There is a line in the song that says, “I don’t believe that Heaven waits for only those who congregate...”. I’ve liked this song for 40 years and it’s on my mind today because we’ve been talking about God’s love and loving others. But more specifically, the notion of “congregating” or “Church”. God designed us to be in community and noted that it’s not good for us to be alone. We truly are better together. When you become a Christian, you’re not signing up for a religion, you're being adopted into the family of God.This family is called “The Church”. Often people think “church” is just a building or a thing you go to on Sunday, but the church is designed to be a community and a family that builds each other and supports each other and together carries this message about salvation to the world. Some mistakenly attempt to follow Jesus without being a part of a “church” or group of believers in their area. And while you don’t need to attend a church service to get into heaven, you'll live below your designed potential without the community of faith. We discover our purpose within our connection to the family of God!My “church”, for the last decade it seems, has been the Christian community that gathers Sunday mornings and nearly every weekend at the Motocross races across the country. Many of whom are on this devotional list. I can honestly say, I wouldn’t be where I am in my walk with Christ today if it weren’t for the men and women on this thread who helped inspire me to keep growing in my faith and getting comfortable being uncomfortable. And for that, I want to say I love you for it and you know who you are. Who’s having “church” with you? Do you have one? “For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not consist of one member but of many.”1 Corinthians 12:12-14 Much love,
