When Disappointment Strikes - God Handles Your Pain

Have you ever been disappointed? Of course you have. Ever been disappointed in yourself? Uh…yeah. No question we all have and it can come from many different things. We can be disappointed in other people, events or even disappointed in ourselves when things don’t go the way we expected or we act like a donkey. I mean let’s face it, isn’t that what it really is? Remember the old saying, “experience is what you get when what you want doesn’t work out.” I mean, yeah that’s fine and all, but it still stinks and it’s still disappointing....So, what do we do about it?Well, a lot of times, it’s disappointment that causes us to question God, because we wonder why our desires or hopes weren’t met. We feel He’s actually let us down. We also experience disappointment because we think this world is supposed to be perfect (my biggest life frustration). We may not actually express it, but we hope that we’ll get married to our dream person, excel at every thing we do, or land a lucrative career. Lots of good things happen in our time here on earth, but know this: earth is not our home. And earth is certainly not perfect, so we need to adjust our expectations that it should be. I heard a good line in a song recently, “God is not a wishing well”. So while we pray for certain things in life, know that not all of what we want is what God needs us to have. Dig?Accepting our disappointment doesn’t mean we condone or approve of what or who disappointed us. It simply means that we recognize that it happened, and don’t act like it didn’t. When we take this step, we’re on our way toward finding true freedom from whatever is robbing our joy. I use to say when things were tough, “Job had it worse...” because he did and yet, he worshiped God and didn't sin in his pain.Whatever you’re experiencing, no matter how great the devastation of your disappointment, God can handle your sadness, your questions, and the anger you feel in being disappointed. In fact, He wants to handle it.
