Angels Unawares

2 min readLove & RelationshipsHebrews 13:1-2

I've been thinking about what it really means to have compassion. I pray nightly that God lays compassion on my heart toward others. Specifically toward those who oppose me.

It's hard these days. With so many labels, differences of opinion, lifestyles, and everything else, it's not always easy to connect with people.

But we are charged to love one another and show acceptance. It's hard, even toward those who persecute us. But we have to try. Not being swayed by public opinion, but loving our enemies and showing acceptance to those who disagree with us. That is compassion. Being an empath to those we meet.

We're being pushed in so many directions, and our faith in God is being challenged daily.

"Let brotherly love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."

Hebrews 13:1-2

Paul goes on in that same chapter to warn us not to be led away by diverse and strange teachings. So compassion doesn't mean giving up on truth. It means loving people while staying rooted in God's Word.

Stay strong in the Word this week. Smile. Show grace and compassion to those who don't agree with you. Pray for those who persecute you. And most of all, show love and bear good fruit.

This is a challenging ask. But we can do this.

Be Nice. Grace Wins.
