Good Lord Willing: Trusting God's Will in Prayer

“Good Lord willing …”How many times have we heard this saying as response to questions about our plans we have for our lives? I’ve heard it a lot! I’ve said it! I suppose it’s meant to express our beliefs that we believe and trust that if ______ is God’s will then it will be. But are we praying for these things and do we trust His answers to our prayers? Prayer and trust go hand and hand. If we trust God enough to pray to him, shouldn't we trust him enough to answer our prayers the best way he sees fit? Remember that God sees what we cannot. If we truly think about some of the things we have prayed for over the course of our lives we should be grateful God did not say yes to everything we asked. I was sharing with someone yesterday that if I was truly honest about the things I prayed for in my life that I thought I needed, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t happy a lot of what I prayed for didn’t work out. I’m sure you could say the same. God knows his will for us. He knows our thoughts and He knows our needs. “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.”1 John 5:14 God is loving, gentle, and intentional. He has proven himself trust worthy time and time again. So we must begin to change our attitude towards the role God and prayer has in our lives.
