Soliciting vs. Understanding

"Lord willing…"

How many times have we heard this saying as a response to questions about the plans we have for our lives? I've heard it a lot. I've said it. I suppose it's meant to express our belief that if something is God's will, then it will be. But are we actually praying for these things? And do we trust His answers to our prayers?

Prayer and trust go hand in hand. If we trust God enough to pray to Him, shouldn't we trust Him enough to answer our prayers the best way He sees fit? Remember, God sees what we cannot. If we truly think about some of the things we've prayed for over the course of our lives, we should be grateful God did not say yes to everything we asked.

I was sharing with someone yesterday that if I was truly honest about the things I prayed for in my life that I thought I needed, I would be lying if I said I wasn't happy a lot of what I prayed for didn't work out. I'm sure you could say the same.

God knows His will for us. He knows our thoughts, and He knows our needs.

God is loving, gentle, and intentional. He has proven Himself trustworthy time and time again. So we have to change our attitude toward prayer. I'm trying to make my time praying to God about better understanding Him, rather than spending my prayer time soliciting Him.
