Jesus Knows Our Thoughts and Still Loves Us

Ok, I really want to talk about something that has been eating at me for some time...some of my thoughts. You know, the ones you’re ashamed of or the ones you would never say out loud...or sometimes out of frustration you do. I mean, no kidding, sometimes I am completely ashamed at some of the crap my brain comes up with. I try so hard to stay in the word, love everyone, but sometimes I just can’t stay in that lane. Maybe you’re the same?But heres the deal, we are told in Matthew and Luke numerous times, “Jesus knew their thoughts...”. Once, Jesus invited himself over to the home of a notorious sinner, a tax collector, that apparently no one liked. It shocked the neighbors. They couldn’t believe it. While we don’t have many details, the Bible says the sinner “welcomed Him gladly” and was profoundly impacted, excitedly declaring he would pay back everything he had cheated from people, and then some. Maybe Jesus beat up on Zacchaeus for what he’d thought, said, or done, but I don’t get that impression from the text. It seems like they both really enjoyed the visit.That’s just one incident, of course, and the more I read about Jesus, the more I suspect that if He came to my house today, He’d know my thoughts and think, “Yep, that’s a human. I love humans.” It’s funny how grace turns everything upside down. If I’m trying to avoid God with my goodness or impress Him with it, the fact that He knows what I’m thinking becomes a scary one. But if I’m humble, if I already know I’m busted, that fact goes from scary to the best news ever. Why? Because He knows us, all about us, and He still loves us...that’s a relief, because I was in rare for driving back from the track through Atlanta yesterday!
