Let God Handle Vengeance: His Justice, His Timing
So, I’m watching this Netflix series my cousin got me into and I really like it. It’s a Western and I’ve always liked a good Western. But last night while I was watching it, my wife asked why the main guy was trying to kill all these specific soldiers. I told her it’s because he was seeking vengeance for the murder of his wife and kids. Clearly, I don’t advocate this behavior, but it makes for a good TV show...and it also makes for a good topic to talk about. It cannot be exaggerated how much God hates our trying to do His work when it comes to vengeance or vindication. You hear it all the time, “he’s going to get what’s coming to him”, “Karma’s going to get him” or “payback is a _____”. Whether it be vengeance or vindication, either is solely the Lord’s job. He does not like it when you or I try to punish someone, to vindicate ourselves, making ourselves look good or clearing our own names. This is God’s business, it is what He does. Listen man, I guarantee this, try to vindicate yourself and God will immediately get off your case, He doesn’t want anything to do with it. On the other hand, let Him take over (He doesn’t want our help by the way), and He will be on your case and do a perfect job of it. But in His time. Time is on His side. Time is God’s domain. In God’s time all things work together for good. When I was wrong or badly wrong. A temptation for many of us is to claim we were in the right because things worked together for good. No! It is the sheer grace of God that makes things work together for good.“Vengeance is mine, and recompense, for the time when their foot shall slip; for the day of their calamity is at hand, and their doom comes swiftly.'”Deuteronomy 32:35Like everything else, turn your desire to “get even” over to God...he’s got you. Be nice, Grace Wins.
