Look at the Unseen

2 min readPrayer2 Corinthians 4:17-18

Whatcha thinking about?

For real, what has your attention and your mind lately? I ask because I've been thinking about a discussion I had with one of you last week. We talked about being intentional with our thinking and how it affects our attitude and gratitude.

What do I mean, you ask? Well, stay with me a minute. What I'm suggesting is that we need to be more intentional, more targeted, in what we allow our minds to focus on. Are we focusing on what we don't have and dreaming of what we want, or are we thankful for all we have and focused on the eternal? It's a big mind shift, and it's not easy. But like everything, with practice, it gets easier.

When we shift our focus from our wants to what we have, we give the praise to our Provider. Let your focus be on what's around you, what you have inside your home or in your closet, and how those things can fuel your praise. We sometimes need to open our eyes to see what's right in front of us.

When we intentionally focus on seeing God in the midst of the "stuff," we are redirecting our attention. And a shift happens in our heart.

"For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal."
