Not As the World Gives
Can we have peace in our hearts when our world is turned upside down?
Pretty good question. One that requires an honest look inward.
You see, the kind of peace the world gives us is pretty sketch at best. It can change on a whim with no notice at all. That's what happened to me the summer I got my cancer diagnosis. Maybe something similar happened to you. Maybe it's happening right now.
But the kind of peace Jesus promises is built on a different foundation. God Himself. Unchanging, loving, gracious, merciful, faithful. God's peace doesn't just survive in the midst of trials. It thrives there.
And here's a hard truth worth sitting with. Sometimes the comforts we feel are actually comforts of sin, and we're afraid to let them go. So when we feel them slipping, we panic. We need to honestly look at the change or loss we're fearing. Often, it's a loss God wants us to experience so we can grow closer to Him and find the peace He promises.
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid."
John 14:27
