Nothing Nice to Say
"Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits."
Proverbs 18:21
Shifting gears a little today, so bear with me.
What is coming out of our mouths?
The words that come out of our mouth have the power to build up or destroy. We who are created in His image have this powerful gift of using words to build up people. But are we using them to build up or to tear down? What are you posting to social media? Negative words spoken over people in anger and frustration can hurt and cause deep wounds in their spirit. Same goes with what we post online. It is, after all, just an extension of our speech. Right?
The words that come out of our mouth are a direct outflow of what is stored up in our hearts. Jesus taught this too. A good man speaks good things out of the good stored up in him. A bad man speaks bad things out of the evil stored up in him. So it matters what we let our hearts store. That's why we have to guard what we let in. Dig what I'm saying?
I'm bad about this, but getting better. Paul urges us to speak only what is helpful for building others up, and to avoid the rest.
Remember what we were told as kids? If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
Turns out that was the whole thing.
When we meet our Maker one day, will we be okay giving account for the mess that came out of our mouths here?
Be Nice. Grace Wins.

Reluctant Heroes
No hero in the Bible ever set out to be one. Mary, David, Abraham, they just did what was in front of them. Walk humbly with your God. That's the whole thing, isn't it?

A Love for Truth
When you tell lies, you're not just lying to others, you're lying to yourself, and lying to God. Jesus called lying Satan's native language. Let your love for God be accompanied by a love for truth.

As Strong As We Are Honest
Pride, lust, entitlement, the Big Three. We are only as strong as we are honest about them. We become strong by admitting weakness, then starting a consistent battle to eliminate it.
