Take Every Thought Captive

2 min readHealing & RestorationPhilippians 4:8

Anytime we are sick, lose a loved one, have a serious injury, negative thoughts and doubt start to creep into our minds. It challenges our faith. I felt it over the last week after the loss of my good friend and mentor.

The loss reminded me how quickly the dark thoughts show up. And how much work it is to bring them back.

This got me thinking about how critical it is that we keep our minds in check against the Word of God. Our minds are powerful. We have to feed them with the right thoughts, because battles are won or lost in our minds first. We must renew our minds every day with God's truth. The key is to "take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." Gauge every thought against God's Word.

I think Paul nailed it in Philippians 4:8:

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."

Philippians 4:8

What kinds of thoughts are occupying your mind? Are they happy, sad, sinful, depressed, angry? If so, throw them out and ask God to lay His grace upon your thoughts. Ask Him to help you find a good place to rest your mind.

He will. Just ask.

Be Nice. Grace Wins.
