Pride vs Faith: Who's Really Driving Your Life?
I had a great conversation with one of my friends and we were discussing times when we feel like “we got this” and we believe in our own selves and stop relying on God. You see this is caused by or led by Pride, the first sin. Pride tells us that we can do what want and we are enamored with ourselves. We begin to develop a degree of Narcissism. This along with pride gives us the sense that we don’t need anyone anymore, “we got this”. We couldn’t be anymore wrong, “we” ain’t got nothing, God does! Think about the time when you have been in such a terrible situation that you begged God for his grace. That you would do anything to not be in the place you are. I think of the drunk who’s life is crumbling and they’re losing everything and in desperation they get on their hands and knees and beg for Gods Grace, because they can’t do it anymore. Then, when time has passed and the seas have calmed, they resume the very behavior they so desperately want relief from based on their own reliance on self. This is Pride. This is why Jesus said in Matthew 23, “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” If you believe in yourself, you’ve already exalted yourself. You’re operating in pride and “pride comes before destruction.”If you want your life to be saved, believe in Jesus; if you want to ruin your life, believe in yourself. Where are you placing your belief?I’ve said this many, many times. “I know what my life looks like when I’m in control, and it’s not pretty!”I think I’m going to keep letting God Drive direct this show, I’m not cut out for it....you?Be Nice. Grace wins.
