The Devil Hates Your Rest
The weekend is here, and I wanted to leave you with a thought I think we all feel more often than we admit. That's the feeling of needing a rest.
If you're like me, as the year comes to an end, you find yourself wide open and wondering where the year went. Well, it went the same place it always does, and even quicker when we're too busy to pay attention. But what's worse is that when we're this busy, the feeling of needing rest is usually stemming from a starving spiritual need. It's time to take a breath, be still, and know.
We were not designed to live with constant busyness and noise. We all need rest and peace. But for many of us, rest has become a luxury we've grown accustomed to living without. We feel like we can make it.
But rest isn't something we can just decide to go without. It's a built-in physical, mental, and spiritual requirement. Rest is, and always has been, a necessity that we must make space for in our lives.
You see, the devil resides in the hectic, spiritually starved, chaotic world we live in today. He thrives in this space. He knows rest is good for us, and he doesn't want us to have it. He knows rest connects us back to our Father. Rest reminds us of joy. It helps us be more creative, taps us back into Heaven's perspective, and allows us to feel wonderfully free. So our enemy uses techniques to keep us in a place of exhaustion and stress.
The truth is, I am happier, kinder, more alive, and more efficient when I am rested. You are too. But crucially, when we are resting well, we are also more like Jesus.
"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Be Still and Know
Be still and know that I am God. Even the word Selah in this psalm is a call to pause. Stop trying to figure everything out on your own. He is our refuge and our strength.
