The Glory of Overlooking an Offense

I’m sure many of you have heard of C.S. Lewis. He was a prominent 20th century theologian who said, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less.” I bring it up because I’ve been thinking about what I am seeing in the world these days. Everyone is so offended, and trigger happy. We need to chill a bit…Look, it’s inevitable that people are going to offend us either intentionally or unintentionally. The Bible tells us we need to be patient, have some self control. Because being easily offended means we are easily angered. “Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.”Proverbs 19:11 This means that overlooking an offense shows our maturity and gracious attitude. It shows that we do not let our egos get big on us. It would also increase our respectability and show us to be approachable by people.Now, to overlook an offence doesn't mean we negate justice. But it means that we are willing to forgive people and not looking for retaliation and vengeance. Key here, forgive and show humility. Be Nice. Grace Wins.
