The Spiritual Necessity of Rest
I want to leave you all this week with a thought that I think we all feel more often than we admit. That’s the feeling of needing a rest! If you’re like me, as the year comes to an end, we find our selves wide open and wondering where the year went. Well, it went the same place they all do and even quicker when we are too busy to pay attention. But what’s worse, is when we are so busy, this feeling of needing some rest is usually stemming from a starving spiritual need. It’s time to take a breath, be still, and know.We were not designed to live with constant busyness and noise! We all need rest and peace. But for many of us, rest has become a luxury as we have become accustomed to living without it. We feel like we can make it. But rest isn’t something we can just decide to go without, it’s a built-in physical, mental and spiritual requirement. Rest is, and always has been, a necessity that we must make space for in our lives. Man I’m trying! You see, the devil resides in the hectic, spiritually starved, chaotic world we live in today. The devil thrives in this space. See, he knows rest is good for us and he doesn’t want us to have it. He knows that rest connects us back to our Father, God. Rest reminds us of joy. It helps us be more creative, taps us back into Heaven’s perspective and allows us to feel wonderfully free. So, our enemy uses some techniques to keep us in a place of exhaustion and stress. The truth is, I am happier, kinder, more alive and more efficient when I am rested. You are too. But crucially, when we are resting well, we are also more like Jesus. So, this brings me to my last point. It’s time to rest this Thanksgiving holiday. I will be traveling all week next week and in and out of service so I’ve decided that we will resume again Monday December 2nd. (We’ve had a solid 15 month straight run) In the mean time, stay in the word, love on your family and friends and give thanks to The Lord for all His grace. Have a great Thanksgiving!Be Nice, Grace Wins!
