Let Go and Let God: Surrendering Control for Grace
“Quit driving, give God have the wheel!”Look, I’ve talked about this many times before, but God continues to show me time and time again that He is in control, not me. No matter how many times I pray for something to happen or I try and drive a situation in my life the way I HAVE IT PLANNED, God always seems to reply in His way by showing me, He’s got this not me! How many of you get frustrated when YOUR plan for yourself doesn’t work out the way you planned it? Right here, this guys does. That frustration is evidence that our faith is weak. Now that’s not to say we don’t believe any more or any less in God, it simply means that when we are letting go of our faith in Him to have our lives and placing the control ourselves. I’ve metaphorically described faith many times by comparing it to throwing a curve ball. You can read all you want to about the mechanics of the pitch, how to hold the ball, etc. But until you let go of control and have have faith in what you’ve learned and just let it go, it’s never going to curve. You have to trust it. This is like having faith in Christ. We read scripture, we write and read devotionals and we pray. But it’s not until we let go of the wheel, our lives, and say to God (and mean it), “I can’t do this Lord, this is yours” we aren’t going to see the grace that he has for us and our lives. It’s just that simple. “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,”Ephesians 2:8 Be nice. Grace wins.
