Now My Eye Sees You

2 min readSuffering & TrialsJob 42:1-6

I was messaging with an old friend yesterday. We were sharing about the last few years of struggle we've both had, his with family and mine with health. As I laid the phone down after messaging with him, I couldn't help but think, Job had it worse.

I told a friend of mine this a few years ago when he was going through some difficult times. For whatever reason, those words came to my mind at that moment, and I shared them with him. To this very day, he reminds me that it was then his attitude turned around on his circumstances.

Job went through it all. Everything was stripped from him. And yet, in the last chapter of Job, we see him come to the realization that now he truly knows God. Not only that, but after proving faithful and willing to wait in the meanwhile, God blesses him more than ever before.

We don't always need to understand why we go through difficult times. Instead, our job during these times is to remind ourselves daily, sometimes even hourly, that God is sovereign and in control of everything.

"Then Job answered the Lord and said: 'I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge? Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. Hear, and I will speak. I will question you, and you make it known to me. I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you. Therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes.'"

Job 42:1-6

"Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand."

Proverbs 19:21
