Plant the Seed, Trust the Tree

2 min readProverbs 16:3

If you've ever looked at our logo, you know it's a fig tree. And there's a reason for that. The tree represents Jesus. The branches represent us. And the fruit represents the Gospel. A branch can't grow if it's not attached to the tree, and a branch that's not connected can't produce fruit. That's the whole picture right there.

So here's the question. Will we always see the result of the work we've done by witnessing to others and being there when they need us the most? Most certainly not. But that shouldn't discourage us from being there and sharing the Gospel. We never really know how God is using us. We just need to have faith that He is.

Sometimes we think we are asked to move mountains when Jesus is calling us to simply plant seeds. We may not see the end result, but we must have faith in the process. After all, Jesus did say that all it takes to move a mountain is faith the size of a mustard seed.

When Jesus came calling on me, it was well after the seed had been planted and before I knew it. Somebody planted that seed in me a long time before I ever responded to it. I don't even know who it was. But they were faithful enough to plant it, and God was faithful enough to grow it.

That's the beauty of staying connected to the tree. You don't have to see the harvest to trust that one is coming. You just stay attached, keep producing, and let God handle the rest.

Weakness is going to come. The world will place distractions in your path, and you may try to lean on your own good works and understanding. Take heart that God is here to help you grow. He will pick you up when you don't think you can stand. He will never leave you or abandon you.

"Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established." Proverbs 16:3
