The Still Small Voice

I think it's safe to say we all pray in some capacity for something, right? I'd also say it's fair to say we're waiting for God to answer our prayers. We're constantly searching for that answer, trying to "hear" God's answer for us.

But here's the thing: God isn't the problem when it comes to hearing Him. We are. In our minds, we often put the burden of hearing God on God Himself. We walk around waiting and asking for God to speak to us, to tell us something. But what if He IS speaking to us? What if He has been, and we just aren't hearing Him?

Look, man, we don't need to find the perfect recipe to hear God. We just need to be willing to grow and do our sincere best to listen for His voice, and begin the conversation. We have important things to talk about, and so does He.

"And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper."

1 Kings 19:11-12

So when we give up the notion that our conversation is just us bringing a laundry list of prayer requests, or waiting in silence for the clouds to part and His perfect will to descend inscribed on golden tablets, we're beginning to get the point. This is a two-way conversation, in service of a growing relationship.

I believe God is always talking to us. In many ways, we should be in a continuous conversation with Him. The more we talk to Him, the more we begin to see His ways and how He is speaking to us.

Maybe we just need to lean in a little, pay closer attention, and then listen when we need to listen, and speak when we need to speak.
