Restraining Your Lips: When Words Are Better Unspoken
So, I’m in meetings all day yesterday around a lot of people I’ve worked around for 23 years. It was generally filled with catching up with old colleagues, friends and hearing new company rumors. It’s the last part that causes me frustration. You see the Bible mentions that in the multitude of words, sin is not lacking; therefore it is better not even to talk about stuff that could end up spreading rumors. But its hard to do when we are surrounded by it. But I believe we become advocates of sin, evil and wickedness when we speak things that are best left unspoken. Hence we need to learn to be judicious about what things we choose to speak and what things we just choose to lay aside. The Bible says a man of knowledge and understanding spares his words, that means he is careful about what he speaks and what he keeps quiet about. It’s easy to get excited and become “one of the crowd” when everyone gets excited about rumors, both good and bad. But it is imperative that we ask God for that discernment and the self-governing ability to not speak things that are going to expose somebody else unnecessarily, but rather use words in a way that are pleasing to God. Some things are better left unspoken...Iets try and not give them airtime. “When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.”Proverbs 10:19 Be Nice, Grace Wins.
