- Rest
The Spiritual Necessity of Rest
I want to leave you all this week with a thought that I think we all feel more often than we admit. That’s the feeling of needing a rest! If you’re like me, as the year comes to an end, we find our selves wide open and wondering where the year went. Well, it went the same place they all do and ev...

Reflecting God's Light, Not the World's Stuff
So I had a great conversation today with one of you on this devotional chain about the different stages we’ve been through in life as it pertained to “stuff” we acquired. And when I mean stuff, I’m talking about the $100K cars and expansive homes, etc. We basically concluded that as we get older,...
- Faith Testing
God Speaks Through Circumstances
Let keep talking about listening to God and looking for his answers. “for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”James 1:3-4 Look, I think it’s pretty evident that God sp...
- Prayer
Learning to Listen to God
So, I think it’s safe to say we all pray in some capacity for something, right? I would also think it’s fair to say that we are waiting for God to answer our prayers. We are constantly searching for that answer and to “hear” Gods answers for us. But here’s the thing; God isn’t the problem when it...
- Words
The Power of Your Words
Let’s close this week with a thought about the words that come out of our mouths. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”Proverbs 18:21 ESVYou see, words can be the fruit of our thought and our hearts and can be used to encourage and lift up oth...
- Gods Power
We Serve a Big God
We serve a BIG GOD! What does this mean? It means God will work His purposes in your life even when people say He is not supposed to do it. It means in the midst of your darkest hour God will perform the miracle everyone deems impossible. It’s happened to me. God is going to do it when all of hel...
- Loneliness
Finding God in Loneliness
You ever get lonely even though you’re surrounded by people all the time? I do. With social media so prevalent in the world we live in these days, it’s easy to get caught up in what we are allowed to see of others. If we are not careful, it can lead us to believe we are alone. Look, I personally...
- Disappointment
When Life Lets You Down
Ever feel like you could just scream or punch something? Yeah, me too! Man, sometimes life and people will disappoint you, let you down and just have you shaking your head...happened to me yesterday. Oh, and don’t think I took it too well either. After ranting for a while (like it would make a di...
- Salvation
Born Again: A Fresh Start
“Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God."”John 3:3 Jesus is telling us how we get to Heaven. You see, Christianity, in a sense, is about new beginnings. If we are not prepared to make a fresh start each day, putting the mistakes...

Trust God Without All the Answers
“Sometimes we just have to trust God enough to go even when we don’t have all the answers.” -Tim TebowSo as a UGA fan, I didn’t care for him when he played, but I certainly admire his commitment to the Gospel and believe he’s a faithful servant. To that point, he’s right in what I quoted above an...
- Healing
Do You Want to Be Healed?
“After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Aramaic called Bethesda, which has five roofed colonnades. In these lay a multitude of invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed. One man was there who had been an invalid fo...
- Hope
Place Your Hope in God Alone
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”Joshua 1:8 We are talking about hope and yo...
- Gentleness
The Strength of Gentleness
So at church service yesterday, all saints day, they were recognizing those “saints” whom have passed away this year from the congregation. While it was wonderful to hear the names called, including my fathers, I couldn’t help but notice how kind and gentle everyone was. All day long, I felt like...
- Trust
Being Trustworthy and Dependable
It’s been a busy week and I’ve enjoyed our readings and have had some good conversations springing up from them. One of which came up this week about trust. It came up in the context of one of you said, “I can count on and trust you sending the morning devotional.” That has sat on me a while and...
- Discernment
Approve What Is Excellent
“so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,”Philippians 1:10 What is Paul telling us when he says to approve what is excellent? Well, he’s talking about discernment. We need to become better at discerning what is right and what is wrong, or of G...
- Self Control
Self-Control: A City With Strong Walls
“A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.”Proverbs 25:28 ESVI stumbled across this Proverb and I just had to take pause to think about it, so let’s discuss it. So God gave us free will to do what we want to do. We can eat unhealthy, smoke, drink excessively or...
- Patience
Learning Patience: Waiting on God's Timing
I have been forced to learn a lot about myself this year and one of the things I’ve learned is I need to get better with patience. Not only with life but mostly with people! I always thought I was a relatively patient person until I started trying to really learn what it meant to be patient...evi...
- Humility
The Glory of Overlooking Offense
I’m sure many of you have heard of C.S. Lewis. He was a prominent 20th century theologian who said, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less.” I bring it up because I’ve been thinking about what I am seeing in the Media and how we’ve become so PC these days. Everyo...
- Gossip
Love Believes the Best: Avoiding the Gossip Trap
I don’t know about you but I’ve got to do better at turning off gossip when I hear it. I also need to not “enable it” when I hear it by giving a participatory laugh or, “now way!” It just makes it worse. It seems as if now days we believe the negative stuff about people more than the positive stu...

Abiding in His Word: Beyond Christian Duty
I was talking yesterday about how much I enjoy sharing the word in my lay manner and how I feel like I am, in my own way, fulfilling The Great Commission. That is to say I hope I am anyhow. I can tell you this though, this has helped keep me accountable in The Word and I have grown by doing so. I...

The Power of Life and Death in Your Words
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”Proverbs 18:21 Shifting gears a little bit today, so bear with me. I had a situation today that came up and my instinct was to let someone have it. I mean I was hot! But I could feel a presence about the si...
- Mind Renewal
Taking Every Thought Captive
I had a good long talk with one of you yesterday and we talked about trying to control our thoughts as it pertained to the loss of a loved on and the slippery slope we can find ourselves when we allow negative thoughts and doubt to creep into our minds. It challenges our faith. This got me thinki...
- Humility
God Gives Grace to the Humble
How humble do you think you are? Are you prideful and boastful? I ask because God is close to the humble and broken hearted. No one is perfect. We all have sinned. But what makes us beloved to God is our willingness to accept our sinful condition and return to Him. You see, David was a man after...
- Faith
Walking by Faith, Not by Sight
19So we’ve been pounding out gratitude the last two weeks and while it’s always a great topic and one we need to continue to be intentional about, I want to shift gears a little bit. Why? Well, because I want to talk about something else, like faith! Ha! (And I’m in the book of Mark)I’ve been wat...
