Let Go of the Wheel

2 min readProverbs 3:5-6

Look, I've talked about this many times before, but God continues to show me, time and time again, that He is in control, not me. No matter how many times I pray for something to happen, or try to drive a situation the way I HAVE IT PLANNED, God always seems to reply in His way by showing me He's got this. Not me.

How many of you get frustrated when your plan for yourself doesn't work out the way you planned it? Right here, this guy does. That frustration is evidence that our faith is weak. It's not that we believe any more or any less in God, it simply means we're letting go of our faith in Him and trying to take the wheel ourselves.

I've described faith many times by comparing it to throwing a curveball. You can read all you want about the mechanics of the pitch, how to hold the ball, the grip, the wrist. But until you let go of control and trust what you've learned, the ball is never going to curve. You have to let it go.

That's faith in Christ. We read scripture, we write and read devotionals, we pray. But it's not until we let go of the wheel and say to God, and mean it, "I can't do this Lord, this is Yours," that we begin to see the grace He has for us.

It's just that simple.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."
Proverbs 3:5-6
