Where Balance Comes From
You have any balance in your life? Would you even know what it was if you had it?
I got to thinking about that. About how we actually find balance in a life that pulls us in every direction. And I think it starts with one thing we don't usually associate with balance: serving other people.
First, we need the desire to serve God. How can I help my brother or sister? How can I give within my ability, or even beyond it? We all have something to give. For me, one of those things is this devotional and the time I put into it.
These are the moments God promotes us to a new level in our faith. We're all called to give away the good things He's given us. The easiest is our time. His desire is that we shine His light on others the way someone once shined it on us.
And here's where balance shows up. When you start spreading compassion in all seasons and situations, a fire starts kindling inside of you. You don't realize the impact a single kind thing can have. God knows. And as you take those baby steps toward putting compassion at the top of your list, you start seeing God in a whole new light. Your faith gets elevated. You look back and see real growth.
I started praying for compassion not too long ago. God is slowly giving it to me, and I can feel His grace. You will too.
So this week, take a step of faith. Test yourself in some new capacity, one with no gain in it for you, only good for someone else. Watch the balance start coming back. The problems you once thought were monumental will start to shrink, because you'll be focused on something other than yourself. You'll see lives changed, including your own.
I know I have.
"Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing."

Street Cred
Our trials build credibility in our testimony, street cred in Christ. You wouldn't take flying lessons from someone who's never been in the cockpit. Paul wrote about standing firm from a prison cell.

He Loved First
Watching the sun come up, I can't help but marvel at what God has made. Loving Someone you can't see takes faith. But faith and action don't earn His love, He loved us first.
